11 people, returning from a wedding, die in accident in Uttarakhand

At least 11 people have been killed in an accident in Uttarakhand returning from a wedding. Two other people were injured, police said Tuesday.

PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the accident. The injured are being given ₹50,000.

The accident happened in Champawat district on Monday night. Speaking to ANI news agency, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kumaon Police Station Nilesh Anand Bharne said the vehicle they were in crashed near Sukhidhang Reetha Sahib Road.

“So far, we have recovered 11 bodies at the accident scene. According to our previous information, there were 14 to 15 people in the car. The rescue team is looking for others,” said Champawat district police chief Devendra Pincha.

The driver of the vehicle survived the accident and local residents and police were notified.

In a similar incident in Odisha, four people, including three women, were killed when their SUV rammed into a truck in Karahandi district of Odisha, while seven others were killed in the incident. injured in.

The accident happened near Turlakhaman on National Highway (NH217) under the jurisdiction of the Kesinga Police Station. The group returned to their home in Sisekela from Pipalpadar in Bolangir district after their wedding.
