A 13-year-old boy died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district after losing Rs 40,000 in an online game.
The minor, who lived with his family in Chhatarpur’s Shanti Nagar, took the extreme step is unknown to his parents, he had spent Rs 40,000 in the online battle royale game called Free Fire. The boy and his sister were alone at home at the time of the incident. According to the police, their mother, who was at work, received a message notifying that Rs 1,500 had been debited from her bank account. She called up her son and inquired about the deduction, which he admitted to having spent on an online game. She reprimanded her son, following which he went to his room and hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
Police investigating the case recovered a suicide note, allegedly written by the minor, in which he confessed of withdrawing Rs 40,000 from his mother’s bank account and losing the money while playing Free Fire.
The minor’s body was returned to the family after a post-mortem. Further investigation is underway. The police are probing whether the boy was himself making the transactions in the game or if someone else was threatening him for money.
