The Government of India is continuously working to bring its citizens from Afghanistan. On Tuesday, 78 people were brought to India, out of which 16 people have been found to be corona positive.

Sixteen out of 78 people who reached India on Tuesday have been found to be Corona positive. All have been kept in quarantine. Those evacuated include three Sikhs who brought the Guru Granth Sahib with them from several gurdwaras in Afghanistan.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who was at the Delhi airport to receive the Sikhs, also came in contact with the infected people. All of them were asymptomatic patients. India is operating special flights daily to evacuate its citizens from war-ravaged Afghanistan.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri has told that so far a total of 626 people including 228 Indian citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan. He also pointed out that 77 of them were Afghan Sikhs. The number of Indian nationals evacuated does not include those working in the Indian embassy.

India had earlier announced that it would “facilitate the arrival of those who wish to leave Afghanistan” and said that the country’s Hindus and Sikhs would be given priority.
