As the threat from a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic looms over the country, states and the central government are working towards inoculating as many people as possible with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to shield them from the impact of the deadly virus.
But, those with the highest risk factor as the frontline and healthcare workers who are the first line of defence in this fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. A recent study has found that more than 25 per cent of healthcare workers in Delhi were found to have been infected by the Covid-19 virus despite being fully vaccinated. The research, conducted jointly by the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) and Max Hospitals in Delhi-NCR, observed that breakthroughs in vaccinations were far more common during the surge of the Delta variant of the virus in Delhi than what was earlier reported.
