India recorded 36,571 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours ending 8 am Friday. Active cases further reduced to 3.63 lakh and the recovery rate jumped to over 97.52 per cent. On Thursday, 540 new deaths were reported, with Kerala reporting the highest single day fatalities, at 197, followed by Maharashtra’s 158 deaths.
Johnson & Johnson on Friday submitted an application to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to conduct a study of its Covid-19 vaccine for adolescents aged between 12 to 17 years in India, news agency reported. This comes as Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said a Covid-19 vaccine for children could be launched “very soon”, and the results of an ongoing research regarding the same is likely to arrive next month. Mandaviya highlighted the Centre is committed on vaccinating every citizen against the virus.
