Several long-distance buses of the Kannur-Bengaluru Express derailed early on Friday because the running train was hit by a falling boulder while driving on the Toppuru-Sivadi section. After the derailment accident occurred at 3:50 in the morning, no casualties were reported. The train leaves Kannur at 6:05 pm on Thursday. According to the Southwest Railway Company, several passenger cars derailed after several boulders fell and hit a running train.
Officials said the Bangalore-Shyam Singh district railway manager and a district team composed of senior officials and doctors arrived at the scene at 4.45 am on the Accident Rescue Train (ART). A team from Erode Junction in Tamil Nadu also went to the ART site. “The 2,348 passengers on board were all safe.
No casualties were reported,” said Anish Hegd, chief public relations officer of Southwest Railway. He said, “For the convenience of passengers, Toppuru has arranged a total of 15 buses. Five buses are being arranged at the scene of the accident. Refreshments have already been arranged.” After the accident, the KSR Bengaluru-Ernakulam Superfast Special, which was originally scheduled to depart at 6:10 in the morning, was diverted via Baiyyappanahali, Bangarapet and Tirupattur.
The Nagercoil Jn-KSR Bangalore festival special program is scheduled to arrive at 9:10 am and will also be diverted via Salem, Tirupatul, Bangalore and KSR Bangalore. Salem-Yesvantpur Express Special flights scheduled to depart Salem at 5.30 am will be postponed by three hours.
