According to the Federal Ministry of Health data updated this morning, India recorded 8,488 new coronavirus infections today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 3,45,18,901, the lowest level in 538 days. This figure is the lowest level reported since May last year.
The country has recorded 249 new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 4,65,911.
The number of active cases in India is 1,18,443, the lowest level in 534 days, and active cases continue to account for less than 1% of the country’s total cases.
The number of people infected with the new coronavirus has fallen below 20,000 for 45 consecutive days and under 50,000 for 148 consecutive days.
The Federal Ministry of Health stated today that so far, more than 1.16 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been vaccinated in the national vaccination campaign.
