Politicians and business leaders pay their last respects at NCPA lawns, preparations for last rites underway at Worli crematorium.
Indian industrialist Ratan Tata, who is credited with transforming the Tata Group into a globally renowned conglomerate, died at age 86, the company said late Wednesday. He had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Mumbai, where his condition was described as “critical”.
-Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu led the nation in paying tributed to the late Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed their condolences and recalled the values and contributions of Ratan Tata.
-Foreign dignitaries including Nepal Prime Minister Sharma Oli and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti expressed their condolences to the passing away of the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group.

-Ratan Tata’s mortal remains has been put up for display in South Mumbai’s National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) for the public to pay their last respects. Political leaders from Maharashtra, including deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, NCP leader Praful Patel and NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar visited the site to pay their last respects.
-Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit the NCPA to pay his last respects on behalf of Government of India.

-Maharashtra government declared October 10, Thursday, to be a state mourning day, as a mark of respect to the late industrialist. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ratan Tata will be accorded a state funeral and all national flags across government buildings will be flown at half-mast. The state has also cancelled all government events in Mumbai.
