Actor Abhilash Thapliyal is ecstatic to be working with directors like Navdeep Singh, Amit Sharma, and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, who he believes allow him to express himself freely. “I’m working with some fantastic directors, and I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with them at the start of my acting career.” He says, “Warna inke liye bada intezaar karna padta hai.”

“I’ve realised good directors give you a lot of freedom and have a lot of trust in you,” the Aspirants actor continues. It’s not only about the story they’ve written or want to tell; it’s also about the characters. That is what distinguishes them.”

In his upcoming projects, he will play a drunkard in Tiwari’s Faadu or a commentator in Sharma’s Maidaan, displaying a wide range of human emotions. He believes that a director’s freedom can assist an actor in embracing their creative voice.

“You only have knowledge of your character; directors have knowledge of the universe and the plot.” They’ll only tell you what the character should say, but you’ll add your own personality to it. Usmein kya maaza agar sab ek tareeke se ho. For example, my character in Faadu is a drunkard, but I don’t drink. As a result, I’m going to make my own drunkard. “These guys allow you to make up your own characters,” he adds.

Thapliyal has recently returned to Mumbai after a seven-year stay in the city. He exclaims, “Saat saal bemisaal hogaye,” adding that playing good roles is his only priority. “It doesn’t matter if the character shows up for one scene or ten. It should pique my interest. He signs off by saying, “I want to work with good directors and good writers because the story has to work.”
