On Monday, actor Siddhanth Kapoor was detained in Bengaluru on suspicion of narcotics consumption at a party. He has since been granted bail. Siddhanth’s drug use is out of character, according to writer-director Sarim Momin, who directed Siddhanth in two unreleased films.
Siddhanth was described as a “thorough gentleman” by Sarim, who expressed surprise at his detention for drug consumption. Sarim also remembers Siddhanth refusing to portray his character doing drugs in order to avoid sending the audience the wrong message.
According to ETimes, he said, “I was once discussing a character with him (for which I had cast him) and we were discussing the characteristics. The persona was supposed to be a rock star with a reputation for being ‘high.’ ‘Let’s not represent my character as someone who consumes drugs excessively,’ Siddhant had remarked. It does not send a positive message, sir.’”
Sarim continued, “I’ve never worked with Siddhanth in the way that I’m reading about him today as a director. He’s the most professional individual I’ve ever met, as well as a true gentleman.” Siddhanth has appeared in two films directed by Sarim: Khabees, which also stars Tanisha Mukherjee and Bharat Dhabolkar, and ASEQ, which stars Vardhan Puri, Sonnalli Seygall, and Adi Chugh.
Siddhanth proved positive in a blood test result, Bengaluru Police said on Monday, confirming that he consumed drugs. “Yes, he is a DJ (disco jockey) and he plays at parties, and that’s what he was in Bengaluru for,” Siddhanth’s father Shakti Kapoor told HT City shortly after word of his detention got out. I’m not sure where all these reports are coming from. I’ll speak with my son as soon as possible to get the specifics. But I’m sure this isn’t true.”
