In an interview , Pankaj Jha, who portrayed the cunning Vidhayak Ji in TVF’s Panchayat series, disclosed that he was first considered for the Sultan Qureshi part in Gangs of Wasseypur but lost out to Pankaj Tripathi. Critics and viewers alike have praised Anurag Kashyap’s direction work, Gangs of Wasseypur, which is regarded as one of his best works.
“Violated his pledge”
One of the main characters in Gangs of Wasseypur was Sultan Qureshi. Pankaj Jha was the first pick, though. Afterwards, Pankaj Tripathi was cast, though. Formerly, Jha and Anurag Kashyap worked together on Gulaal and Black Friday, but they parted ways for Gangs of Wasseypur. The 47-year-old actor elaborated on the situation by saying that he received the offer while in Patna for a shoot. He assured Kashyap that he would return in two days and that he would do the part. However, Pankaj Tripathi had already been cast as Sultan by the time he returned.
If Jha was harmed by the filmy politics, the hosts questioned. The Black Friday star declared that he didn’t care about the politics going on behind his back and that the “backstabbers” would prevail if he allowed them to harm him. Once more, the hosts questioned him about if landing Sultan’s role would have changed the course of his career because it made Pankaj Tripathi more well-known. Jha, however, claimed he was content and didn’t want to look back.
“Actor who directs”
Pankaj described himself as an actor who directs. “As much as Satya and Gulaal develop actors, they also develop directors,” he remarked. But they can’t even honour their word because there are so many cowardly and feckless people here. He went on to say that he was no longer resentful of Anurag Kashyap. “But even so, I still adore Anurag and have no grudges against anyone.”
Former student of the National School of Drama (NSD) Pankaj Jha gained notoriety for his portrayal of Vidhayak Chandrakishore Singh in the sitcom Panchayat. In Mira Nair’s 2001 film Monsoon Wedding, he played his debut role. In addition, he starred in the films Anwar (2007), Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003), Matrubhoomi (2003), and Company (2002).
Jha recently charged Tripathi with stealing “another actor’s slippers” and glamorising his struggles.
