Aditya Birla Group stated that it will invest approximately Rs 1,000 crore to set up a coatings department in West Bengal, which will be put into use in the next 18 to 24 months.
Officials said that in a recent letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the group expressed interest in establishing a paint manufacturing department in the state, and then three representatives of the group met with chief secretary H K Dwivedi on Thursday afternoon. They said that the organization has asked for the allocation of land for a decorative paint unit on 80 acres of land in Vidyasagar Park in Karagpur for backward integration.
A state government official said that the paint factory itself will provide employment opportunities for 600 people and will create indirect employment opportunities for more than 1,500 people. In response to this development, Partha Chatterjee, Minister of Industry of West Bengal State, said that this is a good sign, indicating that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the state’s industrialization process is accelerating.
He said that the investment promotion committee recently established by the state government will help to better coordinate the departments and accelerate the pace of industrialization.
