The White House said on Tuesday that the US military had evacuated more than 21,000 people from Kabul in 94 aircraft in the past 24 hours.
This is the highest number of people evacuated by America in a day.
32 military aircraft C-17s and 5 C-130s carried 12,700 people while 57 aircraft of American allies carried 8,900.
A US official told The Associated Press that CIA director William Burns secretly arrived in Kabul on Monday to meet with the Taliban’s top political leader, amid a tense campaign to expel people from the country.
