The chief minister of the southern Indian state of Karnataka has said he will discuss the death of a contractor with the state BJP chief minister. KS Eshwarappa is accused of demanding a commission for road construction in the city where the contractor’s body was found.
Police in Udupi have registered an FIR against Eshwarappa on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s family. The senior BJP leader was booked under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment to suicide. Two of his aides have also been booked.
The ruling BJP and minister Eshwarappa have rejected calls for him to stand down. He is accused of demanding a commission for the construction of a road in Belagavi. The opposition Congress delegation has sent a delegation to meet Karnataka governor Thawar Chand Gehlot.
