Curfew imposed in Achalpur city of Maharashtra’s Amravati district. Clashes between members of two communities over removal of religious flags. Police had to resort to firing tear gas shells to disperse the mob. As many as 22 people from both the groups have been taken into custody.

Anti-social elements removed flags of religion from a town in the southern Indian state of Amravati. The altercation escalated into stone-pelting and police used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Police say timely intervention by SRPF (State Reserve Police Force) brought the situation under control.

Incidents of stone-pelting have also occurred during Hanuman Jayanti processions in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area. Communal tensions have also been reported from Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A mob attacked police personnel, a hospital and a temple in Huballi in Karnataka over a social media post.
