Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fresh attack on the Congress party on Tuesday, saying its presence threatened the country’s democratic fibres. In a scathing attack, the prime minister said parties such as Congress were following dynastic politics that was damaging the country, and in response to Rahul Gandhi’s “union of nations” remarks, suggested renaming the Indian National Congress as a “Federation of Congress”.
“Some members asked ‘what would happen if there was no Congress?’ I would say that without Congress there would be no emergency, there would be no caste politics, Sikhs would never be slaughtered, no Kashmir Pandit It will happen,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said amid the uproar among MPs.
“India is the mother of democracy. Democracy, debates have been going on in India for centuries. The problem with Congress is that they never thought about anything but dynasties,” he said, continuing his tirade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India’s democracy faces the greatest threat to family parties, and the biggest loss any party faces as a result is the drain of the best minds.
He said speeches were made on federalism under Congress, but when it took power in the centre, the chief minister was removed from office for “minor issues” in those decades. He then claimed that Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister was sacked because the then prime minister’s son did not like the arrangement at the airport. “Similarly, Karnataka’s popular chief minister Veerendra Patil was unceremoniously dismissed when he was in poor health,” PM Modi said, adding that the people of India The party (BJP) cannot work with such a narrow mentality.
The prime minister said he was not against national progress, but regional aspirations should conflict with national progress.
“India’s progress will be stronger when it meets regional aspirations while considering national development. When our country progresses, the country progresses,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
This is the second time the prime minister has attacked an opposition party in two days. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did nothing and accused the main opposition Congress of not doing enough to help the poor or keep its promises. He also repeatedly invoked India’s civilized unity, claiming that the opposition seeks to harm the country by pursuing the colonial goal of “divide and rule”.
