Air quality panel squads crack down on 228 polluting units

The 40 flight teams formed by the Air Quality Management Committee (CAQM) have severely cracked down on 228 industrial units and construction sites that violated pollution control regulations.

CAQM issued a statement on Thursday that from 1,215 cumulative inspections as of December 7, 228 units in Delhi and the National Capital Region have reported violations of pollution regulations.

“…Among them, 128 industries, 58 construction and demolition sites, and 42 commercial and residential areas that use diesel generator sets have been closed,” the statement read.

The statement added: “Not only was a shutdown order issued to units that severely violated regulations, but the flight team also further verified the actual shutdown operations. So far, 111 such units have been shut down until further orders…”

CAQM has been regularly reviewing the pollution control measures adopted by Delhi and NCR states, as the winter pollution levels in this area tend to soar. The latest review with the state government and pollution control agency was conducted on December 8.
