The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) will host this event to discuss key applications of quantum computing, which is expected to run millions of times faster than today’s advanced supercomputers.

According to a government spokesperson, Boeing, Honeywell International, International Business Machines, Intel and Northrop Grumman are also expected to attend. Charlie Tahan, OSTP’s Assistant Director of Quantum Information Science, said: “There are many exciting things about quantum computers and quantum sensors, and there are some hype related to them.”

“But what we really want is: which applications can be run by quantum computers in the future that can really benefit our society.” This technology based on the core principles of physics is still in its infancy, but has become the darling of investors eager to revolutionize healthcare, finance, artificial intelligence, weather forecasting, and other fields. The administration of President Joe Biden pays special attention to the impact of quantum technology on national security.

Quantum technology is expected to easily crack the encryption standards used today. China, regarded by Washington as its main overseas competitor, has also made major efforts to develop this technology.

Tahan said that the Biden administration also hopes to encourage more students to enter the field and strengthen network security around private R&D to prevent snooping.
