Amit Shah to give statement in Parliament on Nagaland firing incident

Federal Minister of the Interior Amit Shah will issue a statement today in both houses of Parliament on the shooting incident in Nagaland, in which at least 14 civilians (13 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday) were killed. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said that he had talked with the Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the matter, adding that the Minister of Interior would make a statement in the afternoon .

After the opposition leader issued a notice of adjournment to discuss the killing of civilians in the Meng area of ​​Nagaland, the Shah is expected to speak on the matter. When MP Manickam Tagore moved to adjourn the meeting in Lok Sabha to discuss the incident, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha issued a notice of suspension of business “to discuss matters related to the killing of innocent civilians in Nagaland.”

“There was a very serious and tragic incident in which six civilians were killed by the armed forces. This terrible incident led to clashes, resulting in the deaths of eight other civilians and one jaw. We ask the minister today to make a statement,” the opposition leader Mallikarjun Said Rajya Sabha of Kharge.

On Saturday, Shah expressed grief over the incident and condolences to the families of the victims. But the government has not yet issued a statement on the botched counter-insurgency operation of the security forces shooting civilians. After reports of the killing appeared on Sunday morning, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that the central government must give a “true answer” to the “heart-wrenching” incident.

“When civilians and security personnel are not safe on our own land, what exactly is the Ministry of Interior doing?” Gandhi wrote on Twitter.

A 5-member delegation from the Trinamool Congress will visit Nagaland today to meet with the families of the deceased.
