Ireland’s Amy Hunt became the youngest player to score in the ODI century on Monday.

On her 16th birthday, she led her team to a victory over Zimbabwe with an unbeaten score of 121, breaking the record previously held by India’s Mithali Raj.

The female student from Belfast broke the previous record held by Indian player Mithali Raj, who scored 114 points in the June 1999 game against Ireland with a score of 16 years and 205 days.

Hunter only played her fourth ODI, and when Ireland beat Zimbabwe by 85 points, she hit 8 boundaries with 127 goals. The 38-year-old Raj continues to participate in the ODI and Test formats, leading the Indian team in both competitions. “It feels really good-kind of surreal,” said the teenager from Northern Ireland.

“When I was almost fifty, I really didn’t know what to think. I just wanted to stick to it. “When I reached my one hundred, I didn’t know what to do, whether to take off the helmet or continue wearing it.

It was incredible.” Hunter made his international debut in the 15-year-old against Scotland in May. She is only the fourth woman in Ireland to enter the ODI century, and the first woman since 2000. The youngest male batsman to win the ODI century is still Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi. He scored 102 points in the 1996 game against Sri Lanka when he was 16 years old and 217 days old.
