An expressway is in the works that will connect Bengaluru to Vijayawada. The original plan is to connect Bengaluru city to Andhra Pradesh’s legislative capital Amaravati, near Vijayawada.
Successive Andhra Pradesh governments — helmed by N Chandra Babu who was the first Chief Minister of divided AP and now YS Jaganmohan Reddy — have been putting pressure on the Centre for sanctioning an expressway to Bengaluru. According to a source, the sanctioning process is now in its final stages and is expected soon. Currently, it takes more than 12 hours to reach Vijayawada, which is at a distance of 660 km from Bengaluru. The road passes through Kolar, Chittoor and Tirupati before joining the golden quadrilateral till Vijayawada.
