In two separate incidents, unidentified assailants shot at Agriculture University dean Prof Rajbeer Singh in Meerut and the jailor and two other staffs of the Deoband jail on Friday night. Both the assailants were wearing helmet to conceal their identity.
Prof Rajbeer Singh received 3 bullet injuries and 4 empty shells of cartridges were found on the spot. The university students and teachers rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Prof Singh was admitted seriously injured in a private hospital and is being treated in Meerut.
Prof Singh was unable to speak and family members also have not shared any info about the suspects, the SSP added. Police teams have been formed to investigate the incident and identify the assailants.
Unidentified criminals opened fire at the jailor and other staff of the Deoband jail on Friday night. The jailer, Reevan Singh, was strolling inside his official residence premises after having dinner along with two other jail staffs. Police said that 5 persons, including the 2 main assailants, have been arrested. Some visitors came to meet one criminal Neetu, lodged in the jail, on Thursday but the jail staff denied them permission, which led to an altercation between them.
