The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will stage protests across the state on Thursday.
The opposition to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government failed to fulfill its promise to the public before this year’s parliamentary elections. Thursday’s protests will be held in every district of Assam, except for the constituencies of Tamulpur, Mariani, Thowra, Gossaigaon and Bhabanipur, which will have supplementary voting on October 30. Rana Goswami the working president of the APCC said last Sunday (October 17) that as part of the parliamentary elections, the BJP made five important commitments to the public in the state-women’s safety , Raise the daily wage of tea gardeners to 350 rupees, and check the prices of fuel and basic commodities “As a result, the people of Assam delegated their tasks to the BJP.
But they did not fulfill their promises after they came to power,” local media quoted Goswami as saying. The APCC working president also stated that in the upcoming vote on October 30, Congress will win three electoral districts-Thowra, Gossaigaon and Mariani-and said that the party will compete fiercely for the remaining two seats.
The Assam State Assembly had earlier issued a “Silence Oath” on October 11 to oppose the violence that broke out in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh, and demanded the removal of Union minister Ajay Mishra from the highest post. “For VVIP and ordinary citizens, the law cannot be different. Before the minister’s son surrendered, no effort was made to arrest him,” APCC Chairman Bhupen Kumar Borah said after the protest.
