Bhagwant Mann is the Punjab chief minister candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal announced today after an unusual televised vote in which people were asked to call to choose.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal told reporters that Bhagwant Mann received more than 93 percent of the votes by phone and WhatsApp.

Mr Kejriwal released a phone number last week and asked the people of Punjab to tell them who they would like to see as candidates for the AAP’s top job. At the same press conference, he had said the party was keen to hand the responsibility over to two-term MP Bhagwantman, but he himself floated the idea of asking the people for a choice.

Punjab provincial council elections will be held on February 20, the Election Commission said on Monday. The date has been changed from February 14 after political parties asked the Election Commission to consider the Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebration.
