Assembly elections: Goa declares ‘polling day’ as public holiday

The Goa government declared February 14 a public holiday on Monday as it was polling day for the state’s parliamentary elections.

The Government of Goa’s notification reads as follows: “…The Government of Goa hereby declares Monday 14 February 2022 (25 Saka, 1943) as a “public holiday” for the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly General Election ‘Voting Day’, all over Goa.”

The state government has also directed that public holidays should be paid holidays for all government/private agencies.

“The above-mentioned holidays are ‘paid holidays’,” the notice further reads.

A total of 332 candidates are contesting this year’s upcoming parliamentary elections in Goa.

The total number of nominations received in this year’s Goa parliamentary polls was 587.

Goa is scheduled to go to a parliamentary vote on February 14. Counting will take place on March 10.
