India’s number of new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases fell for the third day in a row on Sunday after 2,34,281 new infections were reported, according to the Union Health Ministry’s morning update. This brings the total number of cases in the country to 4,10,92,522.
However, both new deaths and daily positivity rates have risen in the past 24 hours. As many as 893 patients have died from the virus, up from 871 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the case positivity rate soared to 14.50% from 13.39% the previous day.
A total of 3,52,784 people have recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, up from 3,35,939 on Saturday, bringing the total number of patients who have recovered from the disease to 3,87,13,494.
An update from the Ministry of Health shows that the number of active cases in the country has fallen below 200,000, currently at 18,84,937. It accounted for 4.91% of the cumulative total.
India’s vaccination coverage against Covid-19 has exceeded 1,657,000, with up to 62,22,682 vaccinations for eligible beneficiaries in the past 24 hours. More than 75% of adults in the country have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya notified on Twitter on Sunday.
“We are getting stronger in the fight against the coronavirus. We must follow all the rules and get vaccinated ASAP,” his tweet roughly translated from Hindi.
India started Covid-19 vaccines for people aged 15-17 on January 3, while prophylactic doses (booster shots) for healthcare and those with comorbidities began on January 10.
