On January 28, France’s Christina Mladenovic and Croatian Ivan Dodig defeated local duo Jaimee Fourlis and Jason Kubler 6-3 6-4 to win the Australian Open mixed doubles title.
Playing under the closed roof of the Rod Laver Arena, Mladenovic and Dodig got off to a solid start, clinching a key break 4-3 before closing the match after a big serve from the French women.
Australia’s wild-card combo was broken again early in the second set as Dodig’s superb performance at the net proved too good for Foles’ serve.
However, the 22-year-old made an immediate correction and forced a mistake from Dodig to make it 2-2.
