According to data released by the analysis company Sensor Tower in its latest report, the popular video sharing service TikTok and the Battle Royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG Mobile) were respectively the world’s highest-paid apps and games in the third quarter of 2021.
Application spending has increased year by year, and the revenue collected by these applications has increased in the third quarter. It is worth noting that TikTok and PUBG Mobile are still banned in the country, and some other applications were removed from the country’s Play Store and Apple App Store last year due to security issues.
According to Sensor Tower’s report tracking application spending in the third quarter, TikTok increased 41% year-on-year this quarter, while PUBG Mobile increased 11% year-on-year. However, the expenditures for paid apps, subscriptions and in-app purchases don’t stop there. Spending on Google Play Store and Apple App Store increased by more than 15% year-on-year, reaching $33.6 billion.
According to the report, spending on the App Store (13.2%) and Play Store (18.6%) has increased, even though iOS spending is 21.5 billion U.S. dollars, while Android spending is 12.1 billion U.S. dollars. Although TikTok is the highest revenue application in total revenue and the App Store, the highest revenue application in the Play Store in the third quarter of 2021 is the Google One application. The top 10 apps by total revenue include Piccoma Comic Reader, YouTube, Google One, Disney+, Tinder, Tencent Video, iQiyi, Line Manga, and HBO Max. However, TikTok was still the most downloaded app in the third quarter, beating apps such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
