BBL creates central pool of local replacement players amid Covid wave

Published

The Big Bash League has established a central pool of local reserve players (LRP) to help teams fill Covid-induced vacancies on the team for the remainder of the season.

Each player will live under the BBL protocol and be assigned a ‘home’ club for logistical purposes while also being part of a central pool. Under existing BBL contract rules, any club can contract a player as an LRP. Substitutes for an 18-man squad that have joined any team will remain on that team until the original player returns, and at the discretion of the Technical Committee, the substitute will return to the central pool.

Under league agreements for the remainder of the season, clubs will not be able to sign local substitutes from outside the central pool unless approved by the BBL’s technical committee.
