An official from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) told PTI.HT, “Indeed, the doctor who was infected with the Omicron variant tested positive for Covid-19 again.” Before he tested positive for Covid-19. The doctors participated in the international conference from November 18th to November 20th. BBMP officials are conducting contact tracing of medical professionals participating in the international conference. The 28th annual meeting of the Indian College of Cardiology was held in a hotel in Bangalore. Approximately 60 medical professionals, including those infected, attended. So far, three people, including the doctors who participated in the event, have tested positive for Covid-19.
BBMP officials stated that the first Omicron case reported in Karnataka was a 66-year-old South African who arrived in Bangalore on November 20. He tested positive for the virus on the same day and was quarantined. BBMP reported that none of his 24 primary contacts and 240 secondary contacts tested positive for the virus. At the same time, the police have filed a case against this South African national from Gujarat because he violated the quarantine regulations and flew away from the authorities without notifying them.
The managers and staff of a five-star hotel here were also booked for allowing the infected person to leave without notifying health officials. PTI quoted police officials as reporting that they have been booked under different parts of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Karnataka Epidemic Act of 2020.
After two other people were found to be infected with the latest strain of the coronavirus in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, India reported 23 Omicron cases. To date, Maharashtra has recorded 10 cases of Omicron, the highest in the country.
