Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will meet chief minister Bhagwant Mann in Delhi on Tuesday to finalise the details of their election promise to provide free electricity to up to 300 units in Punjab. The scheme will be announced soon, according to officials in Kejriwal’s office.

On Monday, Kejriwal met with Punjab bureaucrats to discuss the issue. “The AAP government in Punjab will have been in place for about a month. Kejriwal is adamant that the AAP’s promise of free electricity be implemented as soon as possible. Communication with the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), cost, and ensuring the scheme is not misused are all being considered.

Mann took office on March 16th. The free electricity scheme was Kejriwal’s first election promise, made on June 29 last year in the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections. The AAP swept to power, winning 92 of the 117 seats in the House of Commons.
