Holidays are coming, we are celebrating a series of festivals back to back. After celebrating Navratri, Karwa Chauth, etc., we are now celebrating the festival of lights-Diwali (or Deepavali).
This is a five-day event, starting with Govatsa Dwadashi and ending with Bhai Dooj. This festival is also called Bhatra Dwitiya (or Bhathru Dwitiya) and commemorates the bond between brothers and sisters. This festival has different names in different parts of the country. Although it is called bhai dooj in the north of the country, the Bengalis call it bhai phonta. In Odia, it is called Bhai Jiuntia, and in Marathi/Gujarati, this festival is called Bhau Beej (or Bhav Bij).
In the south of the country, this day is called Yama Dwitiya. Every year, according to the Hindu lunar calendar, Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartika.
This year, Bhai Dooj falls on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
