Former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun is delighted with Kuldeep Yadav’s return to the ODI squad for the upcoming home series against West Indies which also witnesses The first call-up of young IPL star Ravi Bishnoy. Arun called the decision “encouraging” and praised Kuldeep as one of the “brightest prospects” for the Indian team.
Talking to News9, Allen explained that with the rise of cricket analytics, batsmen are starting to read wrist spinners better, which in turn better pushes those bowlers to stagnate in white-ball cricket. However, he thinks the bilateral ODI series will be a good option for teams to test edge options, so wrist rotations are welcome back to ODI.
“The wrist spinner did a really good job for India. But then they kind of stalled. Because with a lot of analysis, they knew what was going to happen next, so even batsmen started working in that direction. But Again, it’s about evolution. Considering the World Cup, if India can get along with all the talented bowlers and identify the players who will play for them in the World Cup, then I don’t think there is a better way to test it than a bilateral ODI series Who are those players,” he said.
Kuldeep was one of the main spin options in Indian ODI cricket between 2017 and 2019, wreaking havoc in midfield with Yuzvendra Chahal. However, after the 2019 ODI World Cup, both sides dropped out of the competition and management went back to the finger spin option.
Arun praised Kuldeep as a talented bowler and is delighted he has been recalled for the ODI series against the West Indies, which begins at home on February 6.
“I think it was a very encouraging move, they called up Ravi Bishnoi and brought back Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep made some mistakes and he stalled for a while but he has a lot of talent and is probably the brightest future for India One of the prospects. It’s great that he’s back. I hope he’s learned some valuable lessons that will allow him to do well now,” he said.
