Three terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in the Chandgam area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. The police tweeted about the start of the shootout earlier on Wednesday, and the shootout is still going on.
Police Inspector Vijay Kumar said these terrorists belonged to the Mohammed Army (JeM), and one of them was a Pakistani national.
“Criminal materials, weapons and ammunition have been found from them, including 2 M-4 carbines and 1 AK series rifle. This is a great success for us,” Kumar added.
A police official said that security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Chandgam village, which turned into an encounter.
So far, eight terrorists have been eliminated in the Kashmir Valley in the first five days of this year. Seven of them were killed in three encounters, and the sixth was shot when security forces prevented cross-border infiltration attempts. These included Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Saleem Parray from Hajin, who was killed with a foreign militant in the Shalimar Garden area of Srinagar on Monday. On Tuesday, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kulgam district. According to the police’s official statement, and based on the specific opinions provided by the police on the specific situation of terrorists in the Okey village of Kulgam, the police, 9RR and 18 billion CRPF launched a joint security and search operation in the area.
The police stated that during the search operation, when the joint search team was advancing towards the suspected location, the hidden terrorists fired indiscriminately on the joint search team and received effective retaliation, which led to both sides.
Two terrorists were killed in the gun battle. The police found criminal materials, weapons and ammunition from the two terrorists, including an AK-47 and a pistol.
On January 1, another terrorist was killed in the Jumagund area of Kupwala while attempting to infiltrate the Line of Control (LoC).
