JD(U) MLA and newly appointed education minister of Bihar Mewalal Choudhary on Thursday resigned three days after taking oath amid corruption charges in appointments as VC of Bihar Agricultural University. Choudhary was among the 14 ministers who were sworn in on November 16 as part of the Nitish Kumar’s cabinet .
Speaking about the corruption allegations levelled against him, Mewalal said, “An accusation is proven only when a chargesheet is filed or a court gives an order and none of the two is there to prove the allegations against me”. RJD on Wednesday lashed out at Nitish Kumar for appointing Mewalal Choudhary as the education minister despite him facing corruption charges and demanded he be sacked.
“Has Chief Minister Nitish Kumar awarded Mewalal Choudhary for corruption and given him the freedom to loot?” he had asked in a tweet. Choudhary was suspended from the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) in 2017 after an FIR was registered against him over alleged irregularities in appointments during his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour in Bhagalpur district.
