In the days following the bird flu scare, some 25,000 birds landed within a kilometer of an affected poultry farm in Thane.
The move comes days after about 100 chickens died suddenly on a farm in Vehloli village in Shahapur Tehsil, Thane district, officials said.
According to an ANI post, Thane County Magistrate and Collector Rajesh J. Narvekar said the area’s livestock department was ordered to take action to control the infection, adding that samples of dead birds were sent to labs for testing, It was then sent to Pune.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Thane Zilla Parishad. Bhausaheb Dangde, confirmed the test results that the bird died of H5N1 avian flu.
Dangde added that the federal Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has been notified of the cases of bird flu detected here.
