Dwayne Johnson tells how the unexpected Black Adam cameo came about and says that it was his idea. Johnson has been associated with the role of Black Adam for Warner Bros. for more than ten years, and this week, his standalone feature makes its global debut in theatres, officially bringing him into the DCEU. Johnson was originally going to be in the Shazam! movie, but the Hollywood superstar persuaded the producers to let the two DC heroes feature in their own standalone movies and team up for a fight in a later plot.

Even though the Black Adam post-credits scene had previously leaked online, Cavill’s Superman’s return has already generated a tonne of anticipation for what the DC Extended Universe will bring in the future. Johnson discusses Cavill’s Superman cameo in Black Adam in a new interview with ComicBook, which comes in the wake of claims that he had to bypass previous DC Films president Walter Hamada to secure the role. Johnson affirms that in order to have the cameo concept approved, he did in fact speak directly to the executives at Warner Bros. Pictures, giving the following:

Black Adam made it abundantly apparent that Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films are not planning to let Cavill’s Superman go anytime soon, despite their silence over the actor’s Superman’s future. It shouldn’t be a surprise in any way that a confrontation between Black Adam and Superman appears to be unavoidable at this point. For years, it was unclear whether Warner Bros. and Cavill were done working together, but now that the previous administration and DC Films’ Hamada are gone, it does imply that Cavill’s Superman might once more play a significant role in the DCEU. It would be interesting to watch how the bigger audience responds to Cavill’s performance once Black Adam premieres internationally.
