A 3kg bomb designed to “destruct maximum damage” was found in an abandoned bag at a busy flower market in east Delhi this morning. Police carried out controlled explosions to defuse bombs placed at the Ghazipur market, which usually attracts large crowds.
Police suspect it was a terrorist attack ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
An 8-foot-tall pit was dug in a market near the border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for a controlled blast. Visuals show loud explosions and smoke near the market, which has been cleared and sealed off.

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or crude bombs were placed in bags left by client Delhi Police Chief Rakesh Asthana.
The man rode his motorcycle to the market at around 9.30am, ostensibly to buy flowers from the store.
Shortly after, the abandoned scooter with the bag was found, and the florist suspected something was wrong and called the police.
Officers from the Delhi Police Task Force arrived and sealed off the market while the bomb squad dealt with the explosives.
