Both houses of parliament will discuss on Tuesday the Union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last week.
Rajya Sabha’s business advisory committee has been allocated 11 hours to discuss the budget in the upper house, people familiar with the matter said. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said Sitharaman would answer the debate on February 11.
The general discussion was followed by a detailed discussion and vote on grant requests. During the general discussion, the budget as a whole or any issues involved in it can be discussed but not moved. Discussions were limited to reviewing the overall program and structure of the budget, whether spending items should be increased or decreased, etc.
The reports of the subordinate committees on legislation, railways, rural development, panchayati raj and industry are scheduled to be presented separately in the House of Representatives.
Questions related to the Ministry of Cooperation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment are scheduled to take place in Lok Sabha during question time.
