Britain will unveil new sanctions legislation next week to hit “broader” Russian economic targets as part of efforts to stop Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Foreign Secretary Liz Strath said on Sunday.
Britain’s top diplomat said the draft law would expand the country’s sanctions toolbox, so “any company interested in the Kremlin and the Russian regime” could be targeted.
“Putin’s oligarchs will have nowhere to hide,” Ms Truss said.
“I will be announcing improvements to sanctions legislation later this week so that we can target more Russian interests directly linked to the Kremlin.
“What the legislation allows us to do is hit a wider range of targets, so no one thinks they will be immune to these sanctions.”
Relations between Russia and the West are at their lowest point since the Cold War after Moscow deployed tens of thousands of troops on the Ukrainian border.
The military buildup has raised concerns about its planned invasion, spooked NATO and its members, and prompted the Western alliance to explore strengthening its presence in the region.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Saturday night that Britain is preparing to provide NATO with a “massive” deployment of troops, weapons, warships and jets in Europe as early as next week.
