More than Rs 2,600 crore has been allocated in the federal budget to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the construction of non-residential office buildings under the Central Vista project, including Parliament and the Supreme Court.
The amount allocated this year is Rs 767.56 crore, which is more than Rs 1,833.43 crore in the previous fiscal. In addition, the ministry has secured Rs 873.02 crore for residential use.
Delhi’s Central Vista redevelopment project aims to transform the country’s power corridors and create new structures for the country’s most important buildings.
The Central Vista project envisages a new triangular parliament building, a common central secretariat, a refurbished 3km Rajpath boulevard extending from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the Gateway of India, a new prime minister’s residence and offices, and a new deputy Presidential enclave. Notably, six construction firms including Tata Projects Limited, L&T Limited and Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Limited are racing to win the contract for the Executive Enclave on the south side of the South Block, which will house the new PMO, Cabinet Secretariat, House of India and National Security Council Secretariat.
The first three buildings of the Common Central Secretariat were built by Larsen & Tourbo last year. A Jharkhand-based infrastructure company, Kamladityya Construction Pvt Ltd, was awarded the contract to build the Vice-Presidential enclave.
Meanwhile, Tatas is building a new parliament building and Shapoorji Group has been awarded a contract for redevelopment work on Central Vista Avenue, which stretches from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate.
