Budget session 2022: PM calls for quality discussion, says elections will go on

On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for “high-quality discussions with an open mind” at the parliamentary budget session that begins today. Speaking to the media ahead of the first day of the budget meeting, the prime minister said discussions and open debate could be an important opportunity to make a global impact.

“I hope that all MPs, political parties can have high-quality discussions with an open mind and help the country quickly get on the path of development,” Prime Minister Modi said.

He welcomed all members of parliament to the budget meeting and said that in the current global situation, India has many opportunities. He added that the meeting gave the world confidence in India’s economic progress, vaccination program, vaccines made in India.

He acknowledged that frequent elections would affect parliamentary meetings and discussions, stressing that elections are an ongoing process, but the budget meeting will draw a blueprint for the year.

“The more we achieve in this session, the better chance we have of taking the country to its economic peak for the rest of the year,” he added.

The budget meeting will begin and President Ram Nath Kovind will address a joint bicameral session. Federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey, an annual economic report card.
