Jos Buttler has said that he wants England to spoil India and Pakistan’s chances of meeting in the final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Speaking ahead of England’s semifinal against India at Edgbaston on Thursday, Buttler said that he would like his side to “ruin” the celebration if either India or Pakistan make it to the final.
“We don’t want to see an India-Pakistan final. Certainly don’t want to see that,” Buttler said. “We want to ruin the party, if that’s the way it is.
“We want to make sure we’re in the final. That’s the be all and end all for us. But it would be nice to, if not stop India winning the World Cup, then at least make it difficult for them.”
Buttler also said that he is relishing the prospect of taking on India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma in the semifinal.
“He’s a world-class player. He’s in great form. It’s a great challenge,” Buttler said. “You want to test yourself against the best. That’s what gets you up for games.”
