President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019, with which it has become law. The bill to provide citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh was passed by 125–105 votes in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and 311–80 votes in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
