People make wishes for health, wealth, and prosperity to the gods Lakshmi, Ganesh, and Kubera as part of the festival of lights.

Dhanteras or Dhan Trayodashi marks the start of Diwali festivities, which last for five days, finishing with Bhai Dooj. On Govatsa Dwadashi, Diwali begins in Maharashtra one day earlier. As a result, the festivities will begin in Maharashtra on October 21. The five days of Diwali will start on October 22 and end on October 25, according to Drik Panchang.

Dhanteras or Dhan Trayodashi is observed on October 22.

Narak Chaturdashi or Kali Chaudas on October 23.

Chhoti and Badi Diwali are celebrated on October 24.

Govardhan Puja is on October 25.

Bhai Dooj is on October 26.

People perform Lakshmi Puja, also known as Diwali Puja, on the third day (Diwali). During the lengthy festivities, it is the most significant day. Early in the morning, devotees offer prayers to their ancestors, and on Amavasya, they perform Shradh for them. Lakshmi Puja is performed on Diwali during Pradosh Kaal, which begins after sunset and lasts for two hours and twenty-four minutes (approximately).

  1. Dhanteras (October 22, 2022): Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali and is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health, and Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. On this day, people traditionally clean their homes, buy new utensils, and purchase gold or silver to invite prosperity. The most auspicious time for performing the Dhanteras puja is during the evening, especially after sunset, with the Pradosh Kaal being highly favorable.
  2. Naraka Chaturdashi/Choti Diwali (October 23, 2022): Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Diwali, commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. On this day, people take early morning baths and perform puja to purify the body and soul. In some regions, it is celebrated with firecrackers and lighting of lamps.
  3. Diwali (October 24, 2022): The main day of Deepavali, Diwali, is celebrated to honor Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. On this day, families perform Lakshmi Puja, light diyas (lamps), and celebrate with sweets, fireworks, and vibrant decorations. The Pradosh Kaal and Amavasya are considered the most auspicious times for Lakshmi Puja.
