According to reports, the accident occurred in the Katteri-Nanchappanchathram area near Coonoor in the Nilgiris hilly area due to low visibility in fog.
The IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter airborne from Suluer to Wellington, CDS General Rawat and Army Chief of Staff MM Naravane plan to participate in the event held at the National Defense Staff College.
The crash occurred about 10 kilometers from the helipad where the plane landed.
