Under the central government’s ambitious Central Vista project, a large defence enclave will be built for top officials and personnel of the defense sector.
Official sources in the Union Housing and Urban Development Ministry said on Thursday that the Vice President’s house and the buildings around it would be demolished to pave the way for the construction of the defence enclave.
The Vice President’s new residence will be near the North Block.
Presently, the office of Defense Minister, Minister of State for Defense, Secretary of Defense, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and several three-star rank officers is in South Block.
Naval, army, and air force offices are also located in various areas of central Delhi including the Lutyens region. He will now have a big defence enclave of his own, a source said.
Its construction will be completed by 2026 and will be part of the 10 buildings to be demolished under the Central Secretariat.
