In the first vote, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 14 of 35 municipal company (MC) seats, BJP 12 and 8 seats in the National Assembly, while Shiromani Akali Dal won one seat in Chandigarh on Monday. No party has obtained an absolute majority of 19 seats. The results of all 35 seats have been announced. In a major setback, the three former mayors of the People’s Party, Ravi Kant Sharma, Rajesh Kalia, and David Mudegil, lost in the election.
Four current members of the BJP also lost the election, including Shakti Devshali, Sunita Dhawan, Heera Negi and Bharat Kumar.
Chander Mukhi Sharma, chairman of the AAP Campaign Committee, also lost the election.
HS Lucky, the chief spokesperson of Congress and current MP, also lost the election.
AAP won Wards 1, 4, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and 31, and BJP won Wards 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11. Ward, 12, 14, 32, 33, and 35 and Congress 5, 10, 13, 20, 24, 27, 28, and 34. SAD won the 30th district. As many as 203 candidates participated in the ruling of the People’s Party, the opposition Congress, and the debut AAP presented candidates in all 35 seats.
In the outgoing MC House, out of a total of 26 seats, BJP has 20 MPs, 5 MPs, and Shiromani Akali Dal. Counting began at 9 a.m. on December 24, and 60.78% of the 633,000 voters participated in the vote.
