A Chinese army soldier was arrested in the Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh on Monday after he had strayed across the Line of Actual Control.
The PLA soldier, identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long, is currently in captivity of Indian Army and will be returned to Chinese officials at the Chushul–Moldo meeting point after the completion of formalities. The soldier has been provided medical assistance, including oxygen. He was also given food and warm clothes for protection against the vagaries of extreme altitude and harsh climatic conditions.
The sources said that the soldier might have entered the Indian territory “inadvertently”.
The incident was reported as both India and China are planning to hold eighth round of discussion to resolve the border dispute in eastern Ladakh. The previous meeting of the military commanders from both sides to resolve the six-month standoff was held at Chushul on October 12 but ended without any resolution of the dispute.
