The city company has handed over 11 roads with a total length of 41 kilometers to the state highway department for maintenance because it is undergoing financial constraints. The municipal organization covers an area of 257 square kilometers and has 2,700 kilometers of roads in 100 districts. The road connects the national highway and the main road maintained by the national highway. As the company is facing a capital crunch, most of the roads are in poor condition. The potholes are full of stone chips, and durability cannot be ensured. In this context, the state highway department wrote to the company seeking permission to place part of the road under its control for maintenance. A company board meeting led by company commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara was held on August 31 and approved the request. Citizen groups have handed over Avinasi Road from Fun Mall to Trichy Road (3.2 km), from Nava India Signal to Mettupalayam Road (via Chinasamy Road, 100-foot Road and Sivananda Colony) (4.70 km), from Jenneys Residency (Ganapathy Road) to Sakthi Salai (6.6 km), Thaneer Pandal Road from Avinashi Road to Vilangurichi Junction, from Trichy Road to Velallore Noyyal Bridge, from collectorate to Avaramapalayam (via Government Women’s Polytechnic Institute and Sathy Salai), from Ukkadam (Bypass Road) to Sivalaya Junction, From Ponnaiyarajapuram Ramamoorthy Road to Palakkad Road (Kuniyamuthur), Pollachi Road from Sidco to Sugunapuram in Pollachi Road), from Puttuvikki Road to Sundakkamuthur Road (Kovaipudur) and Sanganur Road from Sathy Road to Mettupalaya. An official said that this is the first time the company has made such an arrangement. Recently, civic groups cancelled projects worth tens of millions of rupees on the grounds of the financial crisis.
